John Freed works at the International Herald Tribune, on assignment from The New York Times, where he is a hands-on editor for two print editions (Asia and Europe) and a Web site (IHT.com) during a 24-hour daily news cycle. In addition to a broad range of editing and management skills, he has specialized in publishing on the World Wide Web, in print and in other media. He has often been invited to speak on panels before industry groups about journalism in an Internet-driven world. John Freed was an early adopter of the Internet (in 1974, when it was still called ARPAnet) and has been involved ever since in using computers to deliver information quickly and effectively. He led the effort to make the Pasadena Star-News the first newspaper in the world to be totally paginated. He has taught classes on computer-assisted journalism and has written extensively about computers for a general audience, including his popular Internet Q&A column, which appeared on The New York Times's Web site and was syndicated by The New York Times News Syndicate. |
